Scripture
Deuteronomy 8:2-5  (BSFL*)
Translation
NIV

What God said to me
I have given you the ability to make choices. Your choosing to follow Me out of love and respect is far more meaningful than your choosing to follow Me because you have no choice. Though there may seem to be choices along the way that are equally satisfactory to Me, some of those choices may have you wandering needlessly in a "wasteland" (much like the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years). During these times I will test you, giving you opportunities to prove your devotion to Me. Perhaps you will be reminded of My sovereignty! While multiple choices my seem equally acceptable, only one will lead to peace and contentment.
What I said to God
Our timetables have not always been in sync. I have chosen one option over another because they did both seem equally acceptable and the particular situation had a human imposed time limit – a window of opportunity. Forgive me for not waiting for You to guide me to the best decision. Teach me to live by Your time, in Your time zone, and to wait on You.
